Breaking Bad

A show that truly breaks the boundaries of regular entertainment.  Our protagonist Walter White, a mild-mannered high school science teacher with a son with cerebral palsy, finds out that he has terminal cancer and decides that he must do what he has to, to make sure that his family will survive without him.  We follow along in the series as Walter is forced to make compromises on his personal morality to ensure his family's survival once he is gone.  Those compromises include becoming a methamphetamine chemist nicknamed Heisenberg (with matching hat) and all of the complications that come with it.  There is no better example of how personal morality can be corrupted by the greater need of personal responsibility for your family on television.

Yo Gabba Gabba

A delightfully imaginative and fresh children's show.  Yo Gabba Gabba is my daughter's favorite show to watch on Netflix Kids.  Yo Gabba Gabba was created by two California fathers who shared a mutual disappointment with the available TV programming for children these days.  With its incredibly cute characters, 8-bit style segueways, and the contribution of independent bands on its Super Music Friends Show segment, Yo Gabba Gabba is a new classic for children's entertainment.

Downton Abbey

A period drama set in England that is one of the best pieces of television I have had the chance to watch.  Lord Crawley, the master of Dowton Abbey, sees the preservation of it and his family's reputation as his life's work.  Having had no sons by his wife, his cousin is heir to the Abbey and the fortune set to go with it.  His cousin tragically dies during the Titanic disaster provoking a hurried search to determine who is next in line.  Distant cousin Matthew Crawley, a lawyer from Manchester, is thrust into the position and reluctantly accepts.  Along with him comes his modernist mother, who butts heads with the dowager countess, Lord Crawley's mother Violet (played by the wonderful Maggie Smith).  At the same time, we get insight into the troubles and intrigue faced by the staff who live and work at Downton Abbey, led by the butler Mr. Carson and the housekeeper Mrs. Hughes, during a time of class upheaval.

Battlestar Galactica

The reimagined Battlestar Galactica series is one of the finest examples of space opera out there.  The human race is cast out from its colonies by it's own creation, the robotic Cylons, after a sneak attack during a time of truce results in nuclear devastation of all of their worlds.  Start off with the mini-series that started it all, then watch all seasons and the made for TV movie Razor on Netflix.

I'm starting this blog today to let you know about all of the best shows and movies that are available on Netflix.  Why, you may ask? We'll I've been subscribed to Netflix for the past few years, and all I ever hear about it is how little there is to watch and how terrible the selection is.  The selection on Netflix has been given a really bad reputation, and so I want to highlight all of the  TV shows and movies which I have thoroughly enjoyed on the service.  Your mileage may vary of course, but I will attempt to guide you to, what I have found, is some exceptional entertainment for the price.
